What’s the real story?

Believers tell us we should just

Take our little lives on trust.

No point, they say, in asking why –

Why we’re born,

Or why we die.

All we need to understand

Is that the universe is planned,

That life and death are never chance,

And nothing is mere happenstance.

Well those believers may be right,

And I might live to see the light.

But being a pawn in someone’s game

I’d like to know who’s playing it,

And how it’s going to end.

If it’s all the same
